The connection between the West indies and Africa is well documented. The islands of west indies and the Americas was the first stop in the triangular slave trade, which comprised of tree legs. The first of these legs was from Africa to the West Indies and the Americas and eventually Europe where the triangle death triangle continued. The middle passage is the leg of the triangle between Africa and the West Indies and the Americas. The Middle passage was considered the most horrific leg of this triangle the route where an estimated 2 million of our African ancestors were lost due to the inhumane conditions that they were subjected too during travel. Our African culture was very fortunate to survive the horrors of slavery this is very evident in Grenadian food, music and even our fashion. Even today we still make meals that are heavily based on African flavors and spices. Grenadian calypso and Soca music are deeply rooted in our African heritage. This is Highlighted by Calypso and Soca's African drum patterns and melodies. If you can Believe it our not our traditional clothing mirrors the traditional Kente pattern of our African culture, this is evident in the pattern of the traditional skirts and that the women wear when they perform at shows and national events. Through these design we hope have done justice to our African Ancestors and our African heritage on a whole.
